About this newsletter

The ACP Advocate is an e-newsletter, edited by the College's Washington, DC governmental affairs division, created to provide you, our members, with succinct news about public policy issues affecting internal medicine and patient care. Welcome to The ACP Advocate

Let’s dive right into the headlines of this week’s stories.  I’m sure you’ll want to check out the details…

Our first story features numbers from HHS, the Congressional Budget Office, the most recent Gallup poll, and ACASignups.net.  Each source is providing new data that show fewer uninsured, more young people with coverage and most people following through with payments.  The number crunching has begun and it’s revealing the true impact of healthcare reform.

Last month, at IM 2014, ACP unveiled the High Value Care Coordination Toolkit, urging primary care and specialty doctors to use the toolkit’s components to improve their back-and-forth communication about patients.  Our second article explains that either for hand-offs or advice, this ACP initiative offers aids for doctor-to-doctor communication.

ACP’s new leaders are taking the helm at a turbulent time for medical professionals. Dr. David Fleming, the new president, and Dr. Robert Centor, who will chair the Board of Regents for the next year, both have a long history of advocacy and say they're ready to roll up their sleeves and tackle the tough issues facing internists these days.  Read about their plans and priorities in our final story today.
